About The Moth
The Moth is a licensed Restaurant and Bar which was opened on 1st November 1996. It sits north of State Highway 94 at Mandeville adjacent to the Old Mandeville Airfield. The building was originally the Old Railway Hotel, famous in the prohibition days because it was the closest "wet" area for the town of Gore. It has been vastly updated and redecorated since then, being the subject of a featured article in the "NZ Home and Garden" magazine in April 1996. The restaurant and bar have an aviation theme. It was cleverly decorated by Jane Grocott using soft colours with aviation memorabilia for a thought provoking but nostalgic experience.
The Moth is open daily, except Mondays, from 11:00 am until late. We cater for morning or afternoon coffees, and have an à la carte menu for lunch and dinner. Call in for an espresso or a banquet!
The Moth seats 76 whilst extra seating is available outside under a veranda. We can also cater for weddings, birthday parties and other functions. We have a separate function room with it's own facilities which can be booked for business meetings or a private get-together. Please contact our Manager for full details, especially if you want to link your visit with a flight in one of Croydon Air Services' famous vintage biplanes. It is a great double; a nostalgic flight followed by a fantastic dinner!
